Treating 3.5 MGD of high-pH, high-fluoride industrial wastewater under strict discharge limits, from process design through commissioning for America’s largest solar panel manufacturing facility.
Executive Summary
Tomorrow Water was selected by Gray Construction/Stantec to design and deliver a comprehensive wastewater treatment solution for a large-scale solar panel manufacturing facility recognized as the largest solar manufacturing investment in U.S. history. The facility generates approximately 3.5 MGD of industrial wastewater characterized by extremely high pH, elevated fluoride, significant hydrogen peroxide concentrations, and high nitrogen loading. These challenges were compounded by stringent local discharge limits, an aggressive project schedule, and the need for long-term operational reliability.
Tomorrow Water Actions and Scope
Tomorrow Water provided full design-build services for the campus wastewater treatment system, including process design, equipment supply, system integration, and commissioning. The engineered solution incorporated pH neutralization, hydrogen peroxide destruction, fluoride removal, total nitrogen reduction, solids separation, and advanced coagulation, flocculation, and clarification processes. Sludge thickening and dewatering systems were included to minimize waste volume, while automated chemical dosing and control systems ensured stable operation and consistent effluent quality. The treatment train was designed with scalability and future reuse readiness in mind.
Conclusion
Through a technically rigorous and integrated approach, Tomorrow Water delivered a resilient wastewater treatment system capable of meeting strict regulatory requirements while supporting high-volume, advanced manufacturing operations. The solution reduced operational risk, optimized treatment performance, and future-proofed the facility for growth reinforcing the client’s leadership in both renewable energy manufacturing and environmental stewardship.
