Tomorrow Water Featured in The Water Council Member Spotlight: “Critical Connection Helps Tomorrow Water Grow”

Tomorrow Water is proud to be featured in a Member Spotlight by The Water Council, highlighting the power of collaboration in advancing innovative wastewater solutions across the United States.

Expanding into the U.S. market is no small feat but with the right partners, innovation finds its way. Through a strategic introduction by The Water Council, Tomorrow Water partnered with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), a nationally recognized leader in wastewater treatment. Together, this collaboration has accelerated the deployment of next-generation technology in the U.S. — with transformative results.

A Breakthrough Pilot Driving the Next Phase

Through The Water Council’s Pilot Program, Tomorrow Water launched one of its first U.S. pilots at MMSD’s South Shore Water Reclamation Facility, showcasing the capabilities of its Proteus® platform.

Unlike conventional gravity clarification, Proteus® utilizes high-rate filtration media to significantly reduce treatment footprint while capturing 80–90% of suspended solids and enhancing carbon diversion for energy recovery.

The pilot’s success has led to the next step:
MMSD is now planning a full-scale, 2.25 MGD demonstration, evaluating the performance of Proteus® at a larger scale.

MMSD estimates that adopting advanced solutions like Proteus® at a single plant could:

  • Save millions of dollars over 20 years

  • Increase energy recovery through biogas generation

  • Reduce chemical usage across treatment processes

  • Decrease wet-weather overflows and basement backups

Leadership Insights

"They say the U.S. market is a tough nut to crack — and they aren’t wrong. Despite our track record of 100+ global successes, making our mark in the States was no walk in the park. But Tomorrow Water’s Proteus loves a good challenge. Thanks to TWC’s pilot contest, we opened the door and secured our place at the MMSD Demo plant."E.F. Kim, Founder & CEO

"The key to introducing innovative technologies to the very conservative U.S. market is to find the 'true' champions of innovation among the utilities, engineers, and industry organizations. MMSD and The Water Council are right at the top of that list."Mohamed Abdelbadie, Chief Commercial Officer
